                                                 APPLICATION LETTERS

Definition:
A letter of application or an application letter, also known as a cover letter, is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.
A letter of application typically provides detailed information on why are you are qualified for the job you are applying for. Effective application letters explain the reasons for your interest in the specific organization and identify your most relevant skills or experiences.

When do you write an application letter?

We use an application letter when you want to apply for a job or you are interested in an special job or company.

What is the structure of an application letter?

When we need to write an application letter we should include:

First Paragraph: Why you are writing - mention the job you are applying for and where you found the listing.

Middle Paragraph(s): What you have to offer the employer - mention why your skills and experience are a good fit for the job.

Last Paragraph: Say thank you to the hiring manager for considering you and note how you will follow up.

Write 5 important TIPS for writing application letters:

1. Personalize your letter as much as possible.
2. Get feedback from an independent person.
3. try to create a typed hard copy or electronic applications.
4. Make sure you observe business letter writing conventions – left hand justified, open punctuation, clear, concise, readable – and of course, NO spelling or grammar errors! This is a formal letter.
5. Keep your application letter to one page maximum and only from three to four paragraphs.

TRANSACTIONAL LETTERS

TRANSACTIONAL LETTERS

1. What is a transactional letter?
  • A transactional letter refers an e-mail. The word transactional simply means that it is a response to a letter or e-mail and some notes.  It can be both formal and semi-formal. Normally ask for additional information about the subject presented, or call for explanation/clarification of the information given earlier.
2. What are the 6 steps when writing a transactional letter?

2.1. CHOOSE THE BEST WAY TO START:
In this part we have to check who the receiver, why I am writing, what I am writing about. We need to find out what is the best style to use.
2.2. THE PLANNING:
It is much betters to plain our answer. For this we need 3 items:
A)     Decide the style.
B)      The original letter can gives you an idea for the     subject and for vocabulary that you can use in it.
C)      Details that you can use in your answer.
2.3. DECIDE THE PARAGRAPHS:
What are you going to put in the paragraphs, usually is better only 4 of them and they should be very short.
2.4. USE YOUR OWN WORDS:
Try to take some words from the original letter but it is better that we explain in our own words and in that way we will show we our abilities.
2.5. CHOOSE THE RIGTH STYLE:
Here we need to check again that we have chosen the correct style for the letter or e-mail, and also the use of proper vocabulary.
2.6. CHECK AND CORRECT
We have to check the grammar part, the use of expressions, if we usually make mistakes check them many times and check the vocabulary.

3. What is the most important information that you should take into account at the time of writing a transactional letter?

  • I think all of steps are important for writing a transactional letter in the best way; I don’t take them as steps but better as purposes or advices for get better our writing communication.

Define it your self according to the subject that best applies!

Dear Lee,

Since you have gone many new things has happened to me. I decided to play with the university´s basketball team and I have played with it 6 months ago, I like this sport so much and you know it. Maybe you remember the musician guy of the next neighborhood, Chris, well, I started to take singing lessons with him since March and now he is my boyfriend, it was something really funny.

On the other hand, in the next month I will start with a French course that I need for the career and I am very exciting with that. I also plan to take a little vacation on October because this last three months have been very stressful for me. Probably, I am travelling to the Caribbean beaches or to Amazonas.

My friend that is all for this moment. I hope everything continues in the best way for both and I will be waiting for your early visit.

your sincerely,

Ruby.

RULES OF NETIQUETTE

THE NETIQUETTES

The netiquettes are important because as the website says so many times we do not have care enough when we are writing an email or a letter, most of time we write as we talk, that is my case because I try to give the same treat to the person who I am talking as if I were with that person face to face but I found an error, I use the same expressions and words and that is not polite by mails; This is not the only mistake that I have done, I know, but I try to be respect, very sensitive, polite and I always take into account the following items for the way that I write,: The use of capital letter, the standards of behavior(the same online and real life), the use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, this last one is very important for  me because I dislike the improper spelling both in English and Spanish.
